KADIN HAKLARI
Toplumsal alanda yapılan en önemli yeniliklerden birisi de kadının toplumda hak ettiği yeri almasıdır. Eski toplumsal yapıda kadına verilen değerin yanlış olduğunu ve Türk kadınının toplumda yer almasının gereğini ATATÜRK şu sözleriyle anlatmıştır:
“Bir toplum, bir millet; erkek ve kadın denilen iki cins insandan oluşur. Mümkün müdür ki, bir kitlenin bir parçasını ilerletelim diğerini görmezlikten gelelim de kitlenin tümü ilerlemeye imkân bulabilsin? Mümkün müdür ki bir toplumun yarısı topraklara zincirlerle bağlı kaldıkça diğer kısmı göklere yükselebilsin? Şüphe yok, ilerleme adımları, dediğim gibi iki cins tarafından beraber, arkadaşça atılmak ve ilerleme ve yenileşme sahasına birlikte kesin aşamalar yaptırmak lazımdır. 17 Şubat 1926’da Medeni Kanun’un kabul edilmesi kadın hakları alanındaki en büyük inkılâplardan biridir. Bu kanunla; Ailede kadın erkek eşitliğini sağlamaya yönelik çok önemli atılımlar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Birden fazla kadınla evlenmeye son verilmiş ve boşanmalarda kadınlar da söz ve hak sahibi olmuşlardır.

Yeni Türk Devleti’nde kadınlara sosyal, kültürel hakların yanında, siyasî haklar da birçok uygar ülkeden önce tanınmıştır. Dünyada Yargıtay üyeliğine seçilen ilk kadın da bir Türk kadınıdır. Hatta kadınlarımız ATATÜRK’ün açtığı bu yol sayesinde başbakanlığa kadar yükselmişlerdir.
ŞAPKA VE KIYAFET İNKILABI
Yeni Türk Devleti’nin sosyal yapısını oluşturmaya yönelik devrimlerden birisi de kıyafet inkılabıdır.
Padişah II. İnsanın giysisinin, kültürel birikiminin göstergesi olduğunu bilen Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kurucuları, bilim ve sanatta çağdaş uygarlık seviyesine eski anlayışla ulaşılamayacağını anlamışlardı.
Halkın kıyafetini modern dünya ile uyumlu hale getirmek için 25 Kasım 1925’te “Şapka İktisası Hakkındaki Kanun” kabul edilmiştir.
1934’te çıkarılan bir kanunla da din görevlilerinin ibadet yerleri dışında dini kıyafetlerle gezmeleri yasaklanmıştır. Kılık-kıyafet inkılabıyla Türkler ile öteki çağdaş uluslararasında bir simge niteliğinde sayılan Osmanlı toplum yaşamını ve gelenekselliğini simgeleyen tüm eski başlıklar ve kıyafetler değiştirilmiştir. Şehirli, köylü, devlet adamı, din görevlisi ve Müslüman, Müslüman olmayan halk arasındaki kıyafet karmaşası giderilerek toplumsal anlamda birlik ve beraberlik güçlendirilmiştir. Çağdaş uygarlığın içinde yer almaya kararlı Türk toplumu, uluslararası kıyafeti benimseyerek kıyafet inkılabını medeni bir toplum olmanın gereği olarak kabul etmiştir.
ATATÜRK geri bir memlekette medeniyet meselesi halledilmedikçe hiçbir meselenin halledilemeyeceğini düşünüyordu. Şapka inkılabı, hem şeklen ve hem de düşünsel olarak değişimin, çağdaş bir toplum olmanın bir sembolü olarak değerlendirilmiştir.
TEKKE VE ZAVİYELERİN KAPATILMASI

Selçuklular ve Osmanlılar zamanında Anadolu’nun Türkleşmesinde ve Anadolu’nun Türk kimliği içinde yoğrulmasında büyük hizmetleri geçen tarikatlar ve bunların kurumlaşmış şekli olan tekkeler daha sonraki yüzyıllar içerisinde asıl fonksiyonlarını yitirmişlerdir. Toplumsal anlamda birlik ve beraberliğe zarar verecek bir niteliğe gelmişlerdir.
Düşünsel olarak insanların her hangi bir üretim içinde olmadığı, insan zamanının büyük oranda harcandığı tekke ve zaviyeler adeta çalışmadan yaşayan insanların toplandığı yerler haline dönüşmüşlerdir. Bir takım tarikat mensuplarının halkın inançlarını istismar etmesi, maddi olarak haksız kazançlar sağlamaları, ilmi ve dini temele dayanmayan hurafeler üzerinden insanlar üzerinde baskı kurmaları tarikatları çöküntüye uğratmıştır.
Çağdaş bir devlet ve toplum düzeni kurmak isteyen ülke yönetimi, olumlu fonksiyonları kalmamış olan bu kurumlardan en kısa zamanda kurtulması gerektiğine inanıyordu. ATATÜRK de tarikatların, Türk milletini istismar etmelerini engellemek için toplumsal dayanışma, birlik ve beraberlik duygusunu zedeleyen bu yapıların kaldırılmaları gereğini belirtmiştir.
ATATÜRK bu konudaki görüşlerini şu sözleriyle ifade etmişti: “Efendiler ve ey millet biliniz ki, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti şeyhler, dervişler, mensuplar memleketi olamaz. En doğru, en hakiki tarikat, medeniyet tarikatıdır.” TBMM 30 Kasım 1925 tarihinde kabul ettiği bir kanunla tekke, zaviye ve türbelerin kapanmasını, türbedarlıklarla bir takım unvanların yasaklanmasını kararlaştırmıştır.
Bu Kanun, Allah ile kul arasına giren istismarcıların işine son verdiği ve vicdanlara yapılan dinsel baskıyı ortadan kaldırdığı gibi Türk toplumunun birlik ve beraberliği ile toplumsal dayanışmasının önündeki engeli de ortadan kaldırmıştır.
SOYADI KANUNU
Herkesin ailece anılmasına yarayan öz adından sonraki ada, aile adına soyadı denir. Bütün uygar toplumlarda ailenin köklülüğünü belirten soyadları bulunmaktadır. Osmanlı Devleti’nin son yıllarında; nüfus artışı, askerlik, tapu, nüfus, miras, adalet, eğitim gibi devlet işlerindeki yoğunluğu beraberinde getirmiş ve soyadının bulunmaması nedeniyle bu alanlarda sık sık karışıklıklar çıkmaya başlamıştır. Toplum ve devlet hayatında ortaya çıkan bu karışıklıklar 21 Haziran 1934’te çıkarılan “Soyadı Kanunu” ile giderilmiştir. “Soyadı Kanunu” ile her vatandaşın kendi öz adından başka, mensup olduğu aileye ait bir soyadı taşıması kabul edilmiş, Türk inkılabının önderi Mustafa Kemal’e de TBMM tarafından 24 Kasım 1934’te çıkarılan bir kanunla “ATATÜRK” soyadı verilmiştir. Yine çıkarılan başka bir yasa ile ATATÜRK soyadının başkaları tarafından kullanılması yasaklanmıştır.
Ayrıca 1934’te çıkarılan bir kanunla lâkap ve unvanlar, sivil rütbe, nişan ve madalyalar kaldırılmış, ancak vatan savunması yolunda alınan nişanları taşımak serbest bırakılmıştır. Askerî bir rütbeyi belirten “paşa” kelimesi “general” olarak değiştirilmiştir. Böylece Osmanlı toplumunun sosyal tabakaları ortadan kaldırılmış ve insanların toplumda ve kanun önünde lakap ve unvanlarına göre sınıflara ayrılması engellenmiştir.
Uluslararası Saat, Takvim, Rakam Ve Ölçü Birimlerinin Kabul Edilmesi
Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’ni, parçası olmaya karar verdiği çağdaş dünyadan ayıran unsurlar arasında takvim ve ölçüler de bulunmaktaydı. Türkiye’de Hicret’i başlangıç olarak kabul eden ve ayları ayın hareketlerine göre ölçen Hicri takvimle, mali işler için bu sistemin düzeltilmiş bir türü olan Rumi takvim kullanılmaktaydı.
Bu durum gerek ülke içinde, gerekse Avrupa’yla artan ilişkiler çerçevesinde önemli güçlükler çıkarmaktaydı. Bu nedenle 26 Aralık 1925’da kabul edilen kanunlarla Hicrî ve Rumî takvimler bırakılarak bütün dünyanın kullandığı Miladi takvim kabul edilmiş, 1 Ocak 1926’dan itibaren Türkiye’de Miladi takvim kullanılmaya başlanmıştır.
Alaturka saatin yerini uluslararası saat almıştır. Yine Mayıs 1928’de, uluslararası rakamlar kabul edilmiş, 1931 yılında çıkarılan bir kanunla da eski ağırlık ve uzunluk ölçüleri değiştirilmiştir. Arşın, endaze, okka, çeki gibi eski ve bölgelere göre değişen birimler kaldırılarak onlu sisteme uygun metre ve kilo gibi uzunluk ve ağırlık ölçüleri kabul edilmiştir. Ölçülerdeki bu değişikliklerle hem ülkedeki ağırlık ve uzunluk ölçüleri standart hale getirilmiş, hem de Türkiye’nin uluslararası ticari ilişkilerinde kolaylıklar sağlanmıştır.
